Recording Examples

This was one of the songs I recorded with the voyager jazz ensemble. It was a 7-piece band consisting of a synth, piano, guitar, drum set, bass, sax, and trombone. It was all recorded live off the floor with some edits being done afterwards. The bass and guitar were both taken as DI signals, with the guitar also going through a line 6 effects unit. The horns mics were two fathead ribbon mics with gobos to separate them. The drums were recorded in a separate room with a window to see between the two. The piano was recorded in a separate room but some songs were substituted with a digital Rhodes. For monitoring each player was given their own headphone mix.

This theme is currently being used in a production by Christopher Lawrence. The show is based around allowing children to express their emotions freely. The show is currently still in production. The theme was written using children’s instruments such as a toy piano to give it a very distinct feel.

This song was recorded at NKU in Greaves hall by myself with a personal rig. The pieces were just solo guitar, and were meant to be played as background music for a theatre production. There was a total of 6 mics used, one close up, two mid distance for stereo and two far for ambiance. I then took the pieces and edited them with nuendo to be sent to a video crew to edit the video on top for the production. I am currently in the process of working with the video crew to line up the video to the music.
